Remapping a Complex System

The Challenge

The leading global fast food chain decided to incorporate reusable packaging which adds immense complexity to their system. Our challenge entailed mapping their entire existing system, understanding how reusable packaging affects the system and adds additional material journeys, and presenting final versions of each material journey map.

 

Design Approach

We first mapped out the current packaging journey through intense whiteboarding and organizing the information within Miro. Taking this initial map, we then added information to show how reusable packaging would change parts of the current system in addition to adding new steps and paths. Our final delivery consisted of a variety of maps that showed every possible single or multi packaging journey.
